Dead & Company in Chula Vista, CA on 10/27/21

It was just another Wednesday night in San Diego but in Chula Vista it was far from ordinary with Dead & Company set up to play a one night stand at North Island Credit Union Amphitheater.
By 3pm Shakedown Street was in full swing with rows of vendors and artists selling their swag and some even cooking grilled cheese with bacon in every f-ing bite. Also in the lot was Steve Parish (Jerry Garcia's personal roadie from back in day) hanging out telling stories on the Grizzly Peak bus. It was a beautiful day in the lot and even a more glorious night as Dead & Company played a stellar show to a sold out crowd.

The show opened with a bouncy "Music Never Stopped" that led into "Easy Answers" before going back into "Music Never Stopped". A sweet "Row Jimmy" came next followed by "Friend of the Devil" with Bob Weir breaking out his acoustic guitar.

John Mayer introduced a magnificently jammed out "Cumberland Blues." "Cassidy" next then the set closed with a show standout version of "Mississippi 1/2 Step."

The second set ushered in "St Stephen" that was "William Tell Bridge(d)" into "The Eleven." A seriously bluesy "He's Gone" was followed by "New Speedway Boogie." Drums and space brought us to "I Need a Miracle" the went into another show highlight "Death Don't Have No Mercy." A hopped up "Good Lovin'" ended the set. The encore was an always emotional "Black Muddy River." This show was a great example of the dynamics and improvisational expressions brought forth by this band on their shining summer/fall tour.
