Joe Walsh, Paramount Theater "How Ya Doin?"

Images and article by Bill Kelly

Before breaking into “Life’s Been Good” during last Monday night’s show at the Paramount, Joe Walsh told the story of how when trying to impress the Eagles before joining the band, he rented a tank to drive to the American Music Awards.  Upon arriving at the gate, an official with a clipboard told Walsh “you can’t come in here with that” to which Walsh replied, “you’ve got a clipboard, I got a tank, who you think’s gonna win....”.  Walsh got in, the rest is Rock history.
Walsh has been a major figure on the American music scene since the early 70’s, first as a member of the James Gang, then through several solo iterations and, beginning in 1975 as a member of the Eagles.
One of the original wildmen of his day, Walsh sounded better than ever, with his set featuring   early hits “Funk 49” and “Walk Away” through 2012’s “Analog Man”.  Walsh’s slide and lead style is unique, his playing Monday night demonstrating why Rolling Stone lists him as number 54 of the “100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time”.  Backed by a  solid 9 piece band, Walsh provided 1,500 fans in the Paramount with not just a good show, but a great show.  Walsh is one of those musicians that almost everyone seems to know and like, a few of his songs on every IPod.  Ripping through crowd favorites “Rocky Mountain Way”, “Turn To Stone” “Life In The Fast Lane” and others,  Walsh is living proof that reformed madman with almost 20 years of sobriety can still bring it.  Life’s been good, and the music keeps getting better...
