The 28th Annual Warren Haynes Christmas Jam that took place on December 10, 2016 at the US Cellular Center in beautiful Asheville North Carolina came through with a bang for a night of stellar performances of all kinds.  The event, which is known for having musicians from all backgrounds collaborating to create improvisational jams amongst themselves, kept the fans happy dancing through out the entire long night of music.  The Christmas Jam is and always has been a benefit to support the Habitat for Humanity Foundation.  The event has brought in over 2 Million dollars for the cause throughout the years.

The 2016 event featured many legendary artists from different genres including Grateful Dead musician Bob Weir, playing with Bob Weir and Friends.   Joining him on stage were Allison Krauss, Steve Kimock, and Branford Marsalis.  Michael McDonald from the Doobie Brothers also rocked out with a set featuring other sit-in musicians including Eric Krasno.  Of course it is tradition that Warren will sit in with each act throughout the night.
One of the highlights to many was the Last Waltz Band, which paid tribute to The Band and their famous last performance.  This included musicians Warren Haynes, Michael McDonald, John Medeski, and others.

Newcomer to the scene, Holly Bowling played solo set breaks in between set changes and played her piano versions of songs by The Grateful Dead and Phish.

To Close out the night, Warren Hayne’s own Gov’t Mule rocked out the show until 4 AM.  They were joined by guests Duane Trucks, Marcus King, Jeff Sipe, among others.

The yearly event sells out well in advance and for good reason.  This is the yearly event that people look forward to seeing musical collaborations that you will find nowhere else, and we can’t wait until next December.
