Willie Nelson & Family graced Western North Carolina
this past February with an amazing night of his brand of rebellious country
music at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort Event Center. Willie Nelson is an American icon who is
known as a philanthropist and activist for marijuana and animal rights. The sold out venue contained 3,000 fans eager
to see Willie perform with his trusted guitar, Trigger, and his family
band. Nelson’s band included his sister, Bobbie
Nelson on piano, his son Lukas on guitar, and Kevin Smith on upright bass. The show was full of classic Nelson
songs including “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die”.
Willie Nelson and Family, as it says on the equipment case, brought the Country Throwdown tour to Fontanel in the hills of Nashville in the summer of 2011. Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real was one of the opening acts.
Lukas was just a lil bit country but a whole lot of Rock N Roll. He later added his excellent lead guitar work to the “Willie Nelson and Family” set. During his set he brought local family members Raelyn Nelson and Amy Nelson out to lend their excellent vocal talents to the mix. Willie might be getting old but his family star should continue to shine bright!
Willie Nelson & Family had originally postponed two North Carolina concerts after a run-in with the law and pain in his hand. The first show was canceled in the hour between the bust, in which 6 of Willie Nelson's band and crew were charged for possession of moonshine and marijuana in Willie Nelson's historic veggie fuel burning tour bus park, and the scheduled showtime at the Duplin County Events Center in Kenansville, NC.
The night Willie Nelson was scheduled to perform in Asheville at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on January 30, 2010, the mountains of North Carolina were hit with a good snow storm.
The show has now been officially canceled and tickets can be returned for a refund. Visit the Asheville Civic Center Box Office during business hours to get your money back. Monday thru Friday 10am-5pm.
Willie Nelson's bass player Dan Edward "Bee" Spears and 5 others were cited for marijuana and/or moonshine charges by North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Officers while Willie Nelson's tour bus was parked outside the Kenansville, NC venue where Wille Nelson & Family were scheduled to perform yesterday evening.
At the same time, Willie Nelson's left hand began to hurt him. His left hand was operated on in 2006 to treat carpel tunnel syndrome. Willie has asserted through his publicist and his daughter that it is because of his injured had that the shows have been postponed.
Willie Nelson's concert in Asheville is being rescheduled with new date to be announced soon. With the half foot of snow and icy conditions expected tonight in the mountains of North Carolina, postponing tonight's show was not a bad idea.
