The Higgs
Live at The Foothill Fillmore
11/29/2018

Photos By EarthMusic Photography
Story By Leslie Pitts
It's time for the world to meet the Higgs, Southern California's psychedelic jam band sensation that is capturing the attention of concert goers everywhere.  They are the musical manifestation of the Higgs Boson particle, the cosmic glue that holds the whole show together.

"Melting faces, blowing minds" is the motto their fans have unanimously coined, and it's well-earned.  The Higgs are reaching frequencies that have people clutching their hearts, simultaneously in pre-cardiac arrest and/or orgasmic bliss.
As one of those people, this Higgster can testify that it certainly
feels like ascension.  How many times can a person say "it doesn't get any better than this" and still be believed?  The Higgs are testing the limit with each note.  Yeah, that good.  Let's just say that if they played 3 nights in a row, and you went every night, you would still leave wishing you had more.

Bob Weir....”Bringing it all Back Home”

And with a lil help from my friends.....
Julia Nichols, Deseare Iwin-Gnann, Karen Dismukes-Cooper, and more

The Wolf Brothers (Bob Weir, Jay Lane, Don Was) stopped in at the Ryman Auditorium to pay homage at the “Mother Church” of Americana. Ever since receiving the 2016 Americana Lifetime achievement award Nashville seems to be a special spot for Bob. As Bob said then in his acceptance speech....”You take musical traditions from England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain a little bit, a little bit from France, and blend them together with a rich variety of African musical traditions, and stir it up. You let is simmer for 200 to 300 years and see what happens. This could only happen in a new land. Physically, culturally, and spiritually. That place was and is America.” It was very appropriate to have some special guests that are prominent artists in the Americana genre, Margo Price, John Oates, and Buddy Miller to join in to make it a very special evening.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Last of the Street Survivors Stops in Peoria, Illinois

Peoria Civic Center - Peoria, Illinois November 3rd, 2018
Review and Photos by Jeremy Rickman of JKR Photography

In 1964 Lynyrd Skynyrd popularized what was to be Southern Rock. Their music helped define the 1970's and sold over 28 million records. Among their biggest hits, "Sweet Home Alabama", "Simple Man", "That Smell", and "Free Bird" just to name a few. Tragedy Struck of course in 1977 and the Last of the Street Survivors founding member Gary Rossington and former member Rickey Medlocke and younger brother of Ronnie Van Zant, Johnny Van Zant are touring for the last time. They many be stepping out of the spotlight however their music will live on forever.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo returns to the Ryman

Oct.11, 2018
Nashville, TN

Story By Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo
Photos By Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo

Fifty years ago the Byrds were in Nashville recording “Sweetheart of the Rodeo”, having been influenced by the country roots of Gram Parsons who joined after the departure of David Crosby.
Country Rock's birth happened and although it took decades this album is now considered one of the most influential for the “Americana” genre today. To celebrate it's 50th anniversary Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman joined forces with Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives (“cousin” Kenny Vaughn, “handsome” Harry Stinson, and Chris Scruggs) to perform not just the songs from album but also legendary songs from the Byrds catalog of hits along with a special nod to Tom Petty with whom all had collaborated.

The Rain, the Mud, and Bourbon & Beyond

Champions Park
Louisville, KY 9-22-18
By Michael Yanko
Rock Legends Photographers

First off I must say that this was the best festival out of hundreds I have been to over my many years. The organization was unprecedented. There were many different kinds of food and drink vendors, rental lockers in different locations, adequate and friendly staff, large twin stages right next to each other with a large photo pit that transcended the length, great sound, and excellent lighting. When your festival is in Kentucky and your sponsors include several major bourbon distilleries it makes sense that you would be able to provide the best festival accommodations in the country.

Although I've been a Sting fan since the debut of the first album The Police did back in 1978, it had been over 25 years since I had seen him perform. I really didn't know what to expect, especially when you throw in some Shaggy. My curiosity was piqued.

Midge Ure (Ultravox) and Paul Young

When you go to see and hear 80's artists perform you sort of have to put your ears in your heart and hope for the best. On this particular evening that wasn't necessary as both Midge Ure and Paul Young did a fantastic job of entertaining the crowd with the hits from their careers.

The Plaza Live in Orlando is an intimate venue where every seat in the house has a great view and excellent sound. The staff there is very accommodating, the seats are comfortable, and on this evening the air was charged with excitement for the show the guests were about to enjoy.

Americanafest comes once a year where Artists, industry movers and shakers, dedicated fans, and media come together in Music City USA to celebrate and showcase American music. This year other commitments curtailed your correspondents ability to take advantage of the cornucopia of music offered. But the chance to see out of town friends at the Concord Music group party on the patio of the Capstar building could not be ignored. And after that a rooftop showcase at the new Bobby hotel beckoned.

Beth Hart Orlando, FL

Hard Rock Live
Orlando, FL 8-10-18
by Michael Yanko
Rock Legends Photographers

From the moment she weaved through the crowd from the back of the venue to the stage while singing her opening note to the final note of the last song, Beth Hart totally captivated every single person in attendance.

I was a fan of her music before seeing her live but after seeing her perform I have to say that there is no reason for her not to win every female blues award until she hangs it up and stops singing. There is so much emotion in her show and she deserved every one of the standing ovations she received that night.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band in Orlando, FL

Blues-rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd plays so hard and with so much energy that I'm surprised that things don't melt around him when he walks up on stage. Having seen him twice before, once with Experience Hendrix and once with The Rides, I knew what to expect, but seeing him playing his own songs made it that much more special.

When Shepherd plays it's almost like the guitar is part of his body. His hands seem to flow on it as easily as if he was smoothing out a wrinkle on his shirt.

From the moment frontman, singer, guitarist, and founding member Mike Peters walked out on stage the crowd of hundreds of adoring fans were instantly transported back to the 80's. There is something about seeing a great 80's band in a small packed club with brick walls and lots of colored lighting that just makes it all magically come together.

Peters and his wife Jules (keyboards, backup vocals) were joined on stage by drummer, Steve "Smiley" Barnard, who has been with the band since 2010, and guitarist James Stevenson, who has been with the band since 1999. Stevenson played bass on most songs while Peters played rhythm-lead guitar. Towards the end of the show Smiley came out from behind his kit and played a bit of lead guitar on Peters' acoustic as well.

Dead and Company at Mattress Firm Amphitheater in Chula Vista, CA on 7/6/18

Dead and Company played Chula Vista, CA near San Diego on July 6th, 2018 on probably the hottest day of the year so far in SoCal with temperatures nearing the 100 degree mark. The close to the border "Shakedown Street" was muy caliente but that didn't stop the vendors or the heads from hitting the lot. Beers and waters were flying freely (but not free) from the many coolers scattered about the makeshift traveling flea market. Brightly colored tie dyes are still the deadhead uniform of choice and quite readily available for purchase throughout shakedown although I did with great surprise see a Farrah Fawcett t-shirt for sale at one of the booths. I missed the veggie burritos somewhere along the way but certainly someone was there bringing sand to the beach.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Tommy Emmanuel brought his explosive guitar dynamics to The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida and played to a packed house of mesmerized fans. The Australian-born, Nashville-based guitar wizard, who was extolled by the late, great Chet Atkins as one of the greatest guitar players he had ever seen, incorporates a unique fingerpicking technique into his playing style and has twice been named "Best Acoustic Guitarist" in Guitar Player Magazine. Also noteworthy is the fact that Emmanuel never learned to read music and plays by ear. Every show is chock full of charm, personality and humor, and oh yeah - intense pickin'.

Packed in like sardines at Captain Hiram's “Grand Sand Bandstand” on the Indian River in Sebastian, Florida, the 1,100 diehards of all shapes, sizes and ages were the living proof. Fun dreadlocks, flowing alcohol and funky-scented air were the vibe of the night, with a heavy police presence to ensure safety. The weather was cooperative, the spirits were abundant and the music was spectacular. It was an ideal night to pay homage to the 90s SoCal Punk-Rock-Ska trio, Sublime.

Candlebox Rocks Central Florida With Whole Damn Mess and State To State

March 2, 2018

The Plaza Live
Orlando, Florida

by Michelle Wilson of Rock Legends Photographers

It's hard to believe that 25 years have elapsed since the release of the eponymously named, smash debut record from Seattle-based post-grunge rockers, Candlebox. The eleven-song chartbuster is as fresh today as it was in 1993. Founding member/lead singer Kevin Martin joked on stage at The Plaza Live that the milestone anniversary meant that some of us were as old as he was. While that may be true, the no-holds-barred frontman still has the chops and the audience appeal to perform as if it IS still 1993. Delivering a 90-minute blazing set for the packed, standing-room-only sea of fans, Martin and his band proved that not only do they still have it, they totally own it. Backing Martin on this tour are guitarists Brian Quinn and Island Styles, bassist Adam Kury and drummer Dave Krusen.

An Evening With America In Central Florida

January 25, 2018

Peabody Auditorium
Daytona Beach, Florida

by Michelle Wilson of Rock Legends Photographers

On a rather chilly Thursday evening in Florida's world-famous Daytona Beach, the charming Peabody Auditorium treated fans to an unforgettable evening with America. Growing up in military families stationed in England, founding members Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley, along with the late Dan Peek, formed their acoustic trio with killer harmonies in London, 1970 while attending high school together. They chose the name, "America," to set them apart from their British counterparts. By their fourth album, they had enlisted the brilliant production skills of George Martin, who proceeded to produce a total of four albums for them. 48 years later, Bunnell and Beckley are still doing it, and doing it brilliantly, although as Beckley quipped during the show, "48 years wasn't really part of Plan A." Nevertheless, the band has endured and thrived, performing approximately 100 shows annually.

Jonny Lang Brings His Musical Passion to House of Blues, Orlando

January 19, 2018

House of Blues, Orlando
Lake Buena Vista, Florida

by Michelle Wilson of Rock Legends Photographers

Once in a while there is a concert that pulls you in from the moment you arrive, wrapping you in an almost visceral cloak of unbridled joy. Jonny Lang's performance at House of Blues, Orlando, was just such a show. There was a special vibe coursing throughout the Central Florida venue, one that would endure for the entire evening. Perhaps it was due to the brilliant pre-show music playing from Doyle Bramhall II's latest release, Rich Man. Perhaps it was the visage of Lang himself, lost in the profound hypnosis of his own guitar reverie, as if he knew a secret that no one else knew. Perhaps it was the knowledge that night after night, year after year, the child guitar prodigy with the 40-year-old gritty vocals, Kid Jonny Lang, morphed into the international blues-drenched Christian rocker sensation of today. Perhaps it was all of these thoughts spinning in the minds of the packed crowd, but whatever it was, Lang was on fire and the audience knew it from the first note.
