The “CRB” recently stopped in
Nashville on their “Phosphorescent Harvest” tour. By all comments
from the crowd it ranged from “Epic” to “Amazing”...all
agreed “Never miss a Tuesday show”.
Chris Robinson with The Black Crowes at Hangout Music Festival
Southern rockers The Black Crowes ended their two and a half
year hiatus this spring with an extensive tour including a prime time slot
Saturday night at The Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This performance marked their return to The
Hangout after their appearance at the first Hangout in 2010. Their hiatus proved not to hinder the quality
of their live shows. In fact, it was
quite the opposite. They played with as
much power and charisma as they ever have.
Vocalist Chris Robinson’s easily identifiable voice echoed over the beautifully
sunny beach full of chanting swimsuit-clad fans.
New festivals come and go these days, but the new
Interlocken Festival taking place in central Virginia this September looks like
it will have the magnitude to make an impact on the live music scene of
today. Taking place September 5-8 in Arrington, VA, the
Interlocken Festival will feature alternating continuous performances on two
main stages. Unlike most other
festivals, there will be fewer bands playing full two hour sets. Many of the headlining bands’ performances
will feature unique collaborations and many featured acts will each be playing
on multiple nights throughout the four days of music heaven. May 21st saw the first
announcement of confirmed artists, and one would have to think that this might
be the new Rothbury. Coming right out of
the gate they announce multiple sets from four of the biggest and best jambands
around today. We will see three nights
of Furthur, two nights of Widespread Panic, two nights of The String Cheese
Incident, and two nights of The Black Crowes.
Interlocken adds a unique flare to the spectacle by featuring an
exclusive special performance of Workingman’s Dead for one of the Furthur sets. Widespread Panic will feature John
Fogerty one night, and String Cheese will feature Zac Brown one night. Top it all off with Neil Young and Crazy
Horse and you have the workings of what could become a yearly event that is not
to be missed.
The weather was perfect. The venue was perfect. The audience was perfect. So were Bob Weir, Chris Robinson, and Jackie Greene.
How often do you get three great artists like this together in the “Mother Church” of Americana music to perform their (and our) favorite songs? Unfortunately only once. But if the universe were to give a second chance for those that missed this, it would truly be a miracle.
The Chris Robinson Brotherhood w/J Geils Band Photographs from August 4, 2011 Waterfront Concerts Pavilion - Bangor, Maine
Article and Photographic images created by Conall O'Brien. Chris Robinson formed The Black Crowes in 1989 with brother Rich Robinson. In the fall of 2010, rumors were abound of The Black Crowes hiatus.
In April of 2011 , The Chris Robinson Band was formed which later became The Chris Robinson Brotherhood (CRB). Affectionately known by some as the "Band of Beards", CRB is fast becoming the new favorite band of many listeners.
The Chris Robinson Brotherhood lineup includes Chris Robinson on guitar/vocals , Neal Casal on guitar, Adam MacDougall (of the Black Crowes) on keyboards, George Sluppick on drums and Mark "Muddy" Dutton (of Burning Tree) on Bass.
By David Oppenheimer The Black Crowes performed last night, September 19, 2010 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, NC on their Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys tour. The band got its start in 1984 prior to adopting their current name. The Black Crowes have announced that this is their last tour after two decades on the road. (Click on photos to view full size)
The tour, accompanying the 2010 release of an acoustic based release Crowology with recordings of rearrangements of many of the band's popular original songs, is composed of a full acoustic set and a electric set at each venue. The acoustic set not one of those stay in your seat performances. Instead, Luther Dickenson blazed on the slide with his plugged in acoustic guitars making some forget they were listening to an acoustic set.

The Black Crowes current band members on tour are Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson, Luther Dickinson, Adam MacDougal, Steve Gorman, Joe Magistro, Sven Pipien, Charity White and Mona Lisa Young.
