Alan Paul and Andy Aledort have written the definitive biography on the life of Stevie Ray Vaughan. They recently held a book release event/book talk/Q+A session at Nashville's iconic Station Inn followed by a musical celebration of SRV featuring Jack Pearson, Greg Martin, Scott Sharrad, Seth Walker, JD Simo, Guthrie Trapp and themselves. The event was sponsored and presented by Laurie Gregory of Roots Radio WMOT. Copies of the book were available for purchase and signed by the authors.

Jack Pearson's Birthday Bash at 3^rd and Lindsley this year was perhaps the best ever. Jack loves to play (a waitress remarked “he would play all night if we let him”) and nothing makes him happier when his friends turn out to jam with him. This year's friends included Tommy Emmanuel, Shaun Murphy, Moe Denham, Dave Duncan, Ruth Ann Conley (“Sister Ruth”), Tim Gonzales, Lydia Bain as well as his regulars Charles Treadway on the Hammond and Joshua Hunt on drums.

As is befitting to someone who's contribution to the world of music is so great, there will surely be many “tribute Shows” to Gregg Allman in the near future. Jack Pearson turned his regularly scheduled monthly show at 3^rd and Lindsley into one when he stepped up to the microphone and dedicated his show to Gregg. The first song, very appropriately, was Jack's “My Old Friend”.

Nashville's music community cares. When one of their own falls ill/passes away, always expect an outpouring of support. This was the case when Tom Shinness recently passed away. Organized by John Haring and Rusty Russell this celebration of life featured performances by Ginger Shinness, Ginger Shinness, Keb Mo, Jack Pearson, Phil Keaggy, Annie Sellick/Pat Bergeson, New North (Damien Horne/Krista Marie), Beth Garner, and supporting musicians such as Roy “Futureman” Wooten, Jim Hoke, Sarah Clanton, Katie Blomarz, Michael Morton Flute, Rusty Russell, and more.

When the benefit was first planned Tom was still living and wanted to perform. However he did not make it but was well represented by Ginger Shinness, Heather Shinness, and Jasmine Cheri Shinness.

In a city full of exceptional musicians you would expect nothing less than a tribute/cover band to be the best. With Nashville's own “Midnight Rider's” that proves to be the case. They proved it Saturday night at 3^rd and Lindsley where they held a show in Memory of Butch Trucks. Sitting in were guitar virtuoso's Lee Roy Parnell and former Allman Brother Jack Pearson. Also there were guest appearances by Chris Sartin (Owner of Soulshine Pizza who delivered vocals on Ain't Wasting Time) ) and Tim Horn on Harmonica.

With the passing of Butch Trucks another link to the music of the Allman Brothers band is gone. Yet the music does live on as was shown recently at the Tivoli Theater in Chattanooga. There the Tedeschi Trucks band and the Jack Pearson Trio delivered a show that demonstrated that the torch has been passed to very capable hands.

It was just about a year ago when Butch Trucks brought his “Freight Train” to Nashville City Winery. One of the top Rock drummers ever, Butch was happiest driving the beat. An original Allman brother, his skill and passion on the drums helped make the ABB what it was. When they finally closed down Butch just had to keep going. And just one band was not enough.

With Charles Treadway on the Hammond organ and Joshua Hunt on drums they can produce some amazing music of all genres. Almost every month they play at 3^rd and Lindsley where often other world class musicians come sit in. This last month saw Pat Bergeson join in and wow the crowd with his harmonica prowess.

During this show at Third and Lindsley Pat Bergeson, one of Nashville's great guitar players, who was sitting in playing harmonica, called Jack Pearson “the greatest”. Jack, in his humble unassuming way, just smiled at the compliment, handed Pat his new white Fender, and asked Pat to play one for the folks.
