Darwin Deez

July 12, 2011

Darwin Deez played to a packed house at Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

According to his bio:
Some of our finest musicians, the ones most capable of commanding attention onstage or blaring through the speakers of a radio, can often seem aloof and reclusive in real life. They can sometimes seem like total polar opposites to their public demeanour, or, unfortunately, in some instances, they can sometimes be downright disappointing (too many to name). And then there are the true pop stars among us; the ones blessed with rare, innate qualities, who shine just as vibrantly offstage as on, who have the genetic good fortune to be able to write whip-smart, life-affirming, heart-swelling songs, and at the same time say all sorts of funny and clever and entertaining things, and without whom the cultural landscape would be that much greyer and duller. No one illustrates this distinction more so than young Darwin Deez.

Agnes Obel at the Tin Angel

June 15, 2011

The Danish songwriter/composer Agnes Obel performed at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday. The Tin Angel was the very last stop of her first US tour. She is an amazing pianist with beautiful vocals.

Agnes has become something of a phenomenon overseas, going platinum (100,000 albums) in France, double platinum in Denmark, and sold out venues across Europe. She released a new EP, iTunes Live From Paris, exclusively through iTunes on May 31st. Recorded at the iTunes Opera Store in Paris in March, the EP features some of Agnes’ classic tracks from her debut record, Philharmonics, as well as Agnes’ haunting take on Elliott Smith’s “Between The Bars.”

Blaise Delfino Performs Live at Best Buy

Blaise Delfino Performs Live at Best Buy
June 11, 2011

It was an evening of high energy entertainment inside the Best Buy Oxford Valley store in Fairless Hills, PA when 19 year old Pop Rock recording artist Blaise Delfino performed an hour long concert to a packed-in crowd. Blaise performed songs off his current CD along with some news songs from his upcoming album and a few cover songs as well.

Blaise Delfino’s set was acoustic for this show and he also performed solo. His look is similar to that of the Disney stars and his songs had clean lyrics and were family friendly.

After his performance, Blaise Delfino took the time to sign autographs and take photos with all the fans that lined up to meet him. They all seemed so excited to have this opportunity to meet him in person. I’m sure this will be an evening that many of his young fans will remember for a long time to come.

LCD Soundsystem's final show at Madison Square Garden

Already being hailed in certain circles as the concert of the decade, LCD Soundsystem performed their final show at Madison Square Garden on April 2, 2011.
Frontman, James Murphy, and band may of put on the performance of their career, it's just too bad it was their last show ever. The band's self imposed retirement was announced in February and not surprisingly, tickets sold out in just minutes. Fans actually traveled from most parts of the globe to see this historic concert. And those who were lucky enough to attend were treated to over 3 hours of live music...the evening was peppered by many special guests including Shit Robot, Arcade Fire, Reggie Watts, choir ensembles, and even LCD's original guitarist, Phil Mossman. It was the type of concert that will be talked and written about by fans and critics alike 10 years from now.

The energy at the Garden drew to such a fever pitch at times the rafters continously trembled. As the "best funeral ever" came to an end, the last song was probably the saddest of the night. Murphy sounded nostalgic as he said how it was the last time they were playing, "NY I love you, but you're bringing me down". LCD rocked their way to the very end leaving the stage during a massive balloon drop from the ceiling. It was completely epic!

Holy Ghost! (DFA Records) performed at The Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia, PA on March 31, 2011.
Photos by Joe Ryan/ ryanfoto.com

They are touring in support of their new self titled debut album, released in
March 2011. The 10-song LP will include a few guest appearances (Luke Jenner from the Rapture; Chris Glover from Penguin Prison; and – really – Michael McDonald) and though it will certainly yield more evidence of Holy Ghost!'s place at the top of the heap of dance music makers.

Known around the globe for their party starting singles and their unparalleled ability to get bodies moving on the dancefloor, Holy Ghost! have developed from an in demand DJ duo to a full live band crafting disco-tinged pop songs that satisfy equally on the dancefloor and in a car.
