Galactic with Erica Falls and The Record Company at 20th Century Theater

Galactic just keeps outdoing themselves in bringing the best New Orleans funk experience to the masses. Galactic is featuring Erica Falls as their current vocalist and this girl has "it." As a backup vocalist for Sting, John Fogerty, and several other international touring artists, it's great to hear her in the spotlight and out in front. When she is in New Orleans, she also fronts for the legendary Allen Toussaint. As a not so distant relative of Fats Domino, Erica has what is takes to do whatever she wants in the music industry. Galactic is of course the perfect band to back this rising talent as they played all their classics and some NOLA standards. Galactic is on tour all over the U.S. and will be performing several sets at Jazz Fest in a few weeks. Also check out The Record Company out of Los Angeles for some great garage filled blues.

Where there's smoke.....there's fire

The old adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” was confirmed this past weekend as the band, Dragon Smoke pulled into San Francisco for a stop at The Independent, one of the best venues in the city to enjoy a show. Known for it’s excellent light and sound, it was a perfect evening with one of the finest bands working in New Orleans (or anywhere else for that matter). Dragon Smoke delivered one of those elusive performances one always hopes to see and hear once in a while. One that is perfectly paced, that has plenty of dynamic and emotional range and delivered by a band where one can sense they are right there…in the moment….at the top of their game. Played to a packed sold out house, the band played until way past midnight and the crowd responded in kind; loudly expressing their joy and satisfaction.

Galactic at Hangout Music Festival
Kicking off the summer festival season with a blast was The Hangout Festival taking place in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  With the main stages right on the beach, The Hangout stands out as one of the most epic spring musical vacations.  On a beautiful Sunday afternoon on May 19, from 2:15-3:15, New Orleans funky jazz powerhouse Galactic dominated the Chevrolet Stage.  Nothing is better than dancing to the sextet with the Gulf of Mexico on your right and the white Alabama sand underneath your bare feet.  Galactic’s live shows really demonstrate their wide variety of musical styles and influences.  Vocalist Corey Glover’s unique hip hop twang, drummer Stanton Moore’s layered rhythms, and guitarist Jeff Raines’ melodies all blend into a robust harmony.  Throw in Robert Mercurio’s funky bass and Richard Vogel’s booming keys and you have a substantially flawless performance that is not to be missed.  This show also featured Corey Henry on Trombone.  It is no question why Galactic has become festival favorites after more than 15 years of playing shows.

Galactic at Bonnaroo Music Festival

Branding their own sound of New Orleans Funk, Galactic has been storming though 2011 with their new lineup which has been the addition of Corey Glover and Corey Henry.  Galactic performing at Bonnaroo at 3pm on What Stage, Bonnaroo's main stage.  Tens of thousands braved the heat and 4 days of nonstop music and continued to rage for Galactic's adrenaline pumped set.  Corey Henry made himself at home climbing out on the speakers in front of the stage and grooving out into the audience singing to the crowd.  Corey Glover took a trip up to the edge of the pit and standing on the bench against the front row blazed his trombone to a energetic and receptive crowd indicated by all of the hands in the air.  Toward the end of the set, Galactic's drummer, Stanton Moore, pulled his snare off of his drum set and came to the front of the stage joined by the rest of the band for a drum & percussion jam!
