There are few if any tribute bands out there that rival the cult-like following of Badfish – A Tribute to Sublime. Packed in like sardines at Captain Hiram's “Grand Sand Bandstand” on the Indian River in Sebastian, Florida, the 1,100 diehards of all shapes, sizes and ages were the living proof. Fun dreadlocks, flowing alcohol and funky-scented air were the vibe of the night, with a heavy police presence to ensure safety. The weather was cooperative, the spirits were abundant and the music was spectacular. It was an ideal night to pay homage to the 90s SoCal Punk-Rock-Ska trio, Sublime.

Warren Haynes brought the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration to Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The elegant hall more accustomed to Black Tie and Elegant evening wear was overwhelmed with tie dye and dreadlocks. Where the patrons usually sit politely the kids (of all ages) danced and spun the night away.

It was Friday, March 13, a day many would consider unlucky. But the Jerry Garcia Tribute Band proved the opposite. In fact for legendary bass player Bobby Vega it was the luckiest of days, for that day he married Allison. The sun shined bright that day on their wedding and that aura continued on to the Band's show that night. The show was sold out, for the word was out, this band is a must see.

An evening of Jerry’s music celebrated through a mixture of Warren Haynes magical guitar work and The North Carolina Symphony’s classical interpretation of some of America’s most Iconic music.  The evening started with a lovely pre equinox day of sunshine and cool breezes, the Red Hat Amphitheater filled steadily in anticipation of the evenings mysterious pairing, with a crowd that ran the gamut of Jerry Garcia followers, Warren Haynes fans and Symphony regulars, all mixed together in an evening gown, tie-dyed swirl of joy. Magic was in the air as the house music quieted down and led by Albert-George Schram, conductor for the North Carolina Symphony, the sounds of symphonic tunings poured into the excited crowd, paired with the all-star bands instrument adjustments.

In the past during “Jerry week” one had to leave town to find a musical tribute to Jerry Garcia. But thanks to Jesse McReynolds, Steve Thomas, Shawn Apple, Rod Jansen, and Marty Previt this year all one had to do was truck on down to the Legendary Station Inn for a night of Grate music in honor of Jerry complete with barefoot girls spinning away. Since Jesse announced that the “Wheel” t shirts were being sold for the Rex Foundation that qualifies as a Rex benefit. Along with Jerry tunes such as Loser or Standing on the Moon were some traditional Bluegrass favorites such as Roy Acuff’s Night train to Memphis and some R&R like Chuck Berry’s “Promised Land”. And the “Dark Hollow” closer was just exactly perfect for me. Jesse promised the crowd more nights like this, I know I’m ready.
