Nashville's City Winery holds it's grand opening

Nashville (Music City USA) is a city with many great music venues and it can be tough to stand out. The new City Winery, which held it's grand opening last night, not only stands out already as one of the best; it brings a level of class and sophistication not yet seen here.

Royal Southern Brotherhood in San Francisco

This past Friday night (Jan 31), The Royal Southern Brotherhood lit up an appreciative crowd as they brought their brand of blues and rock to the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. This is a band with serious roots in music consisting of the powerful line up of Yonrico Scott (drums), Charlie Wooton (bass), Mike Zito (guitar & vocals), Devon Allman (guitar & vocals) and Cyril Neville (percussion & vocals).

Bright Light Social Hour with Black Taxi

Bright Light Social Hour (Austin) and Black Taxi (NYC) made a stop at Cosmic Charlies this past week. We decided to check these guys out on the way back from Asheville's Mountain Oasis Festival and found two great bands. BLSH is an up and coming band out of Austin, Texas who have been dazzling crowds at Austin City Limits Festival and SXSW. During SXSW, the band took home the award for Best Album at the Austin Music Awards. Both these bands delivered their own versions of Soul, Funk, Indie and Psychedelia playing styles.  I am certain you will be hearing more about both of these bands in the near future.

The Jackson Unity Tour Plays the Apollo Theater

The Jacksons - Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and Jackie, played the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem last Thursday night,  almost exactly three years after the death of their famous brother, Michael.   Stepping back into the limelight, the remaining brothers honored their past and demonstrated why they are the forerunners of all the boy bands that followed.

Spiritualized Dazzles The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California on 5/22/12

Spiritualized is on tour to promote their new album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, and made a stop at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California on May 22, 2012. The British ensemble was in top form and dazzled the crowd of steady followers as the band launched into their brand of psychedelic space gospel rock. On assignment with a record label on this particular evening, I noticed that the followers of the band are people that really know music, and follow talented bands of every genre. Needless to say, Spiritualized is a musician's band with a healthy dash of soul. The setlist at the Wiltern consisted of several songs off their new album and classics such as "Come Together" and "Cop Shoot Cop." Jason Pierce, the bands front man who also plays in outfits such as Lupine Howl, guided the band through an epic night of music that was greeted with belting applause and intense awe. Spiritualized is currently on tour in the United States and then off to Great Britain.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings in Montreal 5/10/11

What a night to remember! Sharon Jones treated the Montreal crowd to a fabulous show, and her energy filled the room in no time. The signature funk/soul of the Dap-Kings takes root in the 70's Motown movement, and is achieved by using traditional analogue instruments and equipment.

The images from this concert were made with a 24-70mm f/2.8, in front of the stage. There was no pit, and I had to work directly in the crowd.
