Resonance Music and Arts Festival is a festival put on by the crew from Essential Productions next September. The warm up to Resonance Festival took place this weekend with Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and Strange Mechanics. All three bands played to a sold out crowd at the Madison Theater in a warm up for next weeks performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Papadosio and Pigeons are on the rise and we are always impressed that these bands get better with every performance. Keep an eye on your schedule as they are sure to play a show or fest near you. Explosions In The Sky at Bogart's

Explosions In The Sky play an epic live show. They graced Bogart's on Tuesday night to a crowded house. This was EITS's first trip to Cincinnati and it is evident that they have a loyal fan base. I had only seen EITS once at a large festival in California, but they sounded amazing in a 1500 capacity size venue. Check these guys from Austin, Texas out if you get the chance. EITS are a live act not to be missed.

Robert Randolph & The Family Band Rock The Taft

Robert Randolph & The Family Band played a great show last night to a sold out Taft Ballroom. They played several originals and dazzled a few covers, including Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. They are on a national tour and seem to be enjoying life immensely. Robert Randolph has a new album out entitled "Got Soul." He was signing the album for at least half an hour after the show. The vibe in the room was very positive and people were getting their groove on. The opening band, The New Respects put on a solid performance as well, so get there early if you catch this tour. (Photos are all of one angle as there was no photo pit and limited room to move.)

The Lumineers World Tour at US Bank Arena with Andrew Bird and Margaret Glaspy

The Lumineers are on their "Cleopatra World Tour" that made a stop at US Bank Arena last night. The openers were Margaret Glaspy followed by Andrew Bird. Last night was sold out. All three bands put on quite a performance. I haven't seen Andrew Bird or The Lumineers in several years and I was completely blown away. The band had great energy from start to encore. The Lumineers went into the middle of the arena and played on a riser above the crowd which seemed more intimate than just playing on the front stage. I didn't know the Lumineers had such a following, until last evening as the crowd was into every song that was performed. The band leaves here to play a few shows at Madison Square Gardens. Check out the Lumineers and Andrew Bird Tour at www(dot)thelumineers(dot)com.

The Marcus King Band made an appearance Tuesday night at the 20th Century Theater. Band of Horses played a long set of their best songs at Midpoint Music Festival this year. Midpoint showcased about 60 bands in three days and the Band of Horses set on night three stood out. Upon seeing them at Bonnaroo and Forecastle this year, this show at Midpoint really rocked. The crowd seemed very eager for them to go on and play all of their best tracks from all of their albums, including the new lp Why Are You OK? The band delivered.

Phish Performs With Special Guest Bob Weir at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville

Phish played two sold out shows at the Ascend Amphitheater in downtown Nashville at the open air venue right on the Cumberland river. The day started out perfect, it was an 82 degree sunny day with loads of Phish and Bob Weir (of the Grateful Dead) fans roaming around Nashville. Bob Weir was set to play Wednesday night at The Ryman Theater. We went to a Phish pre-party for the Tuesday show and a trusted source told me that Bobby is playing most of the second set with Phish tonight. The day just got better. We went down to the sold out venue and it was confirmed that Bob was sitting in tonight. Of all the years I have photographed Phish, this is definitely a rarity. Phish is playing incredible and truly seem to be having a blast being on stage together. I have been seeing Phish since 1992 and am a University of Vermont graduate. So needless to say, I have been seeing this band for a long time and through many stages of the band's history. This year has been a great year to be a Phish fan.

It was quite a week to be in Nashville. We got to see Bob Weir at the Ryman, two superb Phish shows, photographed Adele, and went to a private show at Jack White's Third Man Records. The band's official setlist is as follows: Please note that we were not in the pit with our pro cameras during the second set so Bob Weir shots are just point and shoot shots.
This show featured the Phish debut of Samson and Delilah and Playing in the Band. West L.A. Fadeaway was last played October 6, 2000 (383 shows). Samson and Delilah through Playing in the Band featured Bob Weir on guitar. Weir also sang vocals on Samson and Delilah, Miss You, and West L.A. Fadeaway. The soundcheck's Blues Jam featured a verse of Funky Bitch from Trey and Walking Blues featured Weir on vocals.

My Morning Jacket Comes Home with a Two Night Run at Iroquois Amphitheater in Louisville

My Morning Jacket came home to play Thursday and Friday night in Louisville, Kentucky at The Iroquois Amphitheater. This venue was fabulous as far as location, sound, and crowd. Not to mention that MMJ is from Louisville, so most fans were there from the beginning of their existence, which has now become triumphant. Almost every major periodical has labeled My Morning Jacket as one of the best live bands of any genre of music. Jim James and every member of the band was playing like it could be their last show with intense energy and showmanship.

Iroquois Amphitheater is an old theater in the woods with a new wooden roof that blocked a little rain Thursday night. Both nights here in Louisville were completely sold out. The opening band, Twin Limb, put on a great set as well. Jim James came out with them and played Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You," which sounded angelic.

The capacity crowd was in great spirits and people came from all over for these performances. We had friends in town from Colorado, Portland, California all the way to Vermont. Jacket played most of their best songs off of every album to date including their newest album, Waterfall. They also dazzled two Prince covers, "Purple Rain" and "Raspberry Beret" as well as the late David Bowie's "Young Americans." They played with high energy both nights and the conversations of everyone leaving the venue was to the tune of, "are you kidding me, that was unbelievable." Jacket is playing limited shows this summer and is making a few festival appearances including Shakey Knees and Lockn. They are also playing a run at Red Rock in Colorado.

Billy Joel at U.S. Bank Arena

Billy Joel played a long set of all his best songs last night at U.S. Bank Arena. The sold out crowd was singing and dancing with Billy as he rocked the arena with his Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame performance. Billy Joel is one of the most successful solo artists of all time and almost every song he played last night has either won a Grammy or some sort of accolade. Check out the article with my photos next week at The Examiner.
