Americanafest comes once a year where Artists, industry movers and shakers, dedicated fans, and media come together in Music City USA to celebrate and showcase American music. This year other commitments curtailed your correspondents ability to take advantage of the cornucopia of music offered. But the chance to see out of town friends at the Concord Music group party on the patio of the Capstar building could not be ignored. Americana week in Nashville showcases so many different artists that it is exceedingly hard to pick the “best”. This year even more so. From Dwight Yoakam to Bob Weir, or Margo Price, etc., how can one really choose? Well, the decision was made to go by the “bootie” barometer, that is, which artist made you want to get up and dance, ie. “shake your bootie”. Using that criteria the winner is unmistakably the legendary Bobby Rush.

Rounder Records Americana artist Doug Seegers with Elizabeth Cook at Nashville's City Winery

Feb. 10, 2015
Nashville, TN.

Review and Photos by Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo

Doug Seegers is the real deal in an industry seemingly taken over by cookie cutter music. Where are the Johnny Cash's and the Waylon Jenning's in today's music?

Americana is the new word for American music today, drawing from the various roots of our current music scene including Country, roots-rock, bluegrass, blues, etc....Well Carlene Carter returning home to Nashville's Ryman Auditorium (Arguably the HOME base for Americana) for a stellar performance, opening the show for John Mellencamp's stellar performance, just has to be Americana in it's purest form.
