Bob Weir....”Bringing it all Back Home”

 Nov. 08, 2018
Nashville, TN

And with a lil help from my friends.....
Julia Nichols, Deseare Iwin-Gnann, Karen Dismukes-Cooper, and more

The Wolf Brothers (Bob Weir, Jay Lane, Don Was) stopped in at the Ryman Auditorium to pay homage at the “Mother Church” of Americana. Ever since receiving the 2016 Americana Lifetime achievement award Nashville seems to be a special spot for Bob. As Bob said then in his acceptance speech....”You take musical traditions from England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain a little bit, a little bit from France, and blend them together with a rich variety of African musical traditions, and stir it up. You let is simmer for 200 to 300 years and see what happens. This could only happen in a new land. Physically, culturally, and spiritually. That place was and is America.” It was very appropriate to have some special guests that are prominent artists in the Americana genre, Margo Price, John Oates, and Buddy Miller to join in to make it a very special evening.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo returns to the Ryman

Oct.11, 2018
Nashville, TN

Story By Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo
Photos By Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo

Fifty years ago the Byrds were in Nashville recording “Sweetheart of the Rodeo”, having been influenced by the country roots of Gram Parsons who joined after the departure of David Crosby.
Country Rock's birth happened and although it took decades this album is now considered one of the most influential for the “Americana” genre today. To celebrate it's 50th anniversary Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman joined forces with Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives (“cousin” Kenny Vaughn, “handsome” Harry Stinson, and Chris Scruggs) to perform not just the songs from album but also legendary songs from the Byrds catalog of hits along with a special nod to Tom Petty with whom all had collaborated.

JD & The Straight Shot

By Michael Yanko
for Concert Photos Magazine

Live at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL 1-24-17

When you are selected to be the opening act for a sold out Don Henley concert you have to be doing something right!

The band represents a combination of blues, rock, Americana, country, and bluegrass.

The acoustic set by JD & The Straight Shot was very entertaining and they did a great job warming up the crowd.  JD (James Dolan, yes, THAT James Dolan) was very personable, and what little he may have lacked in vocal skills he more than made up for through rapport with the crowd and an excellent supporting band.  JD wonderfully explained the history and/or meaning of each song and the crowd really seemed to be very responsive to his banter. The band has recorded 6 albums and performed a nice mix of a few older originals and songs off their new album “Ballyhoo.”

Returning to the “Mother Church” of Americana where he had just received a Lifetime Achievement award the month before, Bob performed his “Campfire Tour” show to a sold out show of fans.
This was the culmination of Bob's 2 day visit to Nashville. Night one was what will be for ever known as a legendary sit in with his “50th Fare Thee Well” band mate Trey at the Phish show. The next day Bob shopped at Carter Vintage Guitars and picked up a Gretsch “Chet Atkins” model #6120. He also stopped in at the famous “clothier” to the stars, Manuel's, shop and picked out a custom blue cowboy shirt, both of which made an appearance at his Ryman Auditorium show that night.

Bobby Rush--Best of Americana Week (Butchie's pick)

September 26, 2016
Nashville, TN

Story By Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo
Photos By Butch Worrell of One Heart Photo

Americana week in Nashville showcases so many different artists that it is exceedingly hard to pick the “best”. This year even more so. From Dwight Yoakam to Bob Weir, or Margo Price, etc., how can one really choose? Well, the decision was made to go by the “bootie” barometer, that is, which artist made you want to get up and dance, ie. “shake your bootie”. Using that criteria the winner is unmistakably the legendary Bobby Rush.
