The video game platform works with Xbox video game systems to allow bands to Xbox users, and to offer fans a way dig into their favorite band’s music in ways they have never been able to before.

Umphrey’s McGee has been working with former Harmonix Music Systems employee – and now “Rock Band” freelancer - Andrew Buch. An alumn of Berklee College of Music, Buch has authored several Umphrey’s McGee songs for the new program, including “1348” and “Miss Tinkles Overture." These songs and others will be made available within the next few months - when the first wave of the Rock Band Network releases are scheduled to hit upon the release of the new Xbox 360 system.

Buch, whose video/music “claims-to-fame” include the underground release of his mind-numbingly difficult "Trippolette" in the original Guitar Hero, has worked on several games in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises, making him a likely choice to prepare the music of Umphrey's McGee for the game. Umphrey’s McGee’s participation in the Rock Band network is one of many ways this band continues to prove themselves truly a band of the 21st century. The band’s innovative, interactive Stew Art Series (S2) has been hailed as a ground-breaking fan experience.  Hosted as individual events before that evening’s already scheduled show, Umphrey’s Stew Art Series is a crowd-sourced improvisation experiment, in which all the music performed by the group on stage are entirely directed by S2 audience members.

Furthur & Friends Tickets - Phil Lesh's 70th Birthday - Haitian Earthquake Relief Benefit Concert

Furthur has just announce a very special performance to be held on March 12, 2010 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco to celebrate Phil Lesh's 70th birthday.  The event is also a benefit concert with all proceeds going to the Grateful Dead's charity, the Unbroken Chain Foundation.  All the money raised at this event will be used through the Unbroken Chain Foundation to provide relief to victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The Dead, after a rockin spring tour in 2009 took the summer off except for one performance at the 2009 Rothbury Festival.  Hailed as the only summer performance of The Dead in 2009, Rothbury was no let down.  The Dead played on July 4, a date known for awesome Grateful Dead performances, which only added to the excitement.

Phil Lesh and Bob Weir are now headling Furthur tour.  Furthur just completed a long run in Mill Valley, CA where the band opened up their practice sessions to a lucky few who were able to scoop up the $25 tickets before they near immediately sold out.  To prevent scalping, the band only allowed one ticket to be purchased per credit card.  Tickets were not transferrable and had to be picked up at the event.  This seems like it'd be too much to do for a large performance at a big venue but I think it was an effective manuver.

Trey Anastasio Starts Winter Tour in February

Trey hits the road in February for a month-long tour with Classic TAB, beginning with a special benefit show at the Jefferson Theatre in Charlottesville, VA on February 8th. The date marks what would have been the 47th birthday of Trey's sister, Kristine, an esteemed environmentalist and author who died of neuroendocrine cancer last April. Proceeds from the show will go to the Kristine Anastasio Manning Memorial Fund.
Trey and Classic TAB features the same lineup from last fall, with the addition of horns back into the mix. Russell Remington (tenor saxophone and flute) and Jen Hartswick (trumpet and vocals) once again join Russ Lawton (drums), Tony Markellis (bass) and Ray Paczkowski (keyboards). New to the group is Natalie Cressman on trombone and vocals. The band is currently rehearsing, adapting arrangements and working on several brand new compositions.
Tickets will go on sale to the public beginning Thursday, January 14th at 10:00am ET.
