Levon Helm – The Man Behind the Legend

By Valerie Ramos-Ford

Back in 2003, Levon Helm played a small but spectacular evening of music at The Black Potatoe (yes,
with an “e”) Music Festival in Central New Jersey. Black Potatoe was, and continues to be, a gem of a
small festival where virtual unknowns and gifted local talent shared a line-up with some of the great
musicians and legends of our time. Among these greats was the great Levon Helm.

Steve Kimock is touring in 2012 for the first time in many years. Beginning in early May,  joining Steve will be  Bernie Worrell on keys (Parliament Funkadelic, Talking Heads), drummer Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow, David Lindley), and bassists Andy Hess (Gov’t Mule, Black Crowes) and Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green, SKB).

Creating images of artists is the primary focus at Concert Photos Magazine, however when the offer was made to do a phoner with Steve we eagerly jumped at the opportunity.
The second portion of  the taped interview is being transcribed and to be published with photo recap article of next Saturday 12 May 2012 show in Portland, ME.

Soulfly Concert Review & Photos

 Soulfly,
Incite, Lody Kong, Wykked Wytch, Mine enemies fall, Headcase concert report.

The Intersection, Grand Rapids, Michigan, April 23, 2012.

Interviews
Soulfly’s Marc Rizzo: He was nice enough to let my son and I both interview him while relaxed before the concert.  He mentioned to my son that he needs to keep playing guitar and get a band together.

His main influences was and guitarists that are greats like  Joe Satriani, Jason Becker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix and many more.

Usually when creating music the riffs are made first then the lyrics.  Each person adds their input on making songs.

My son and I feel he is a shredd legend just like his influences and I’m sure there are many of metal shredd heads out there that say Marc Rizzo is one of there influences.

Paul Simon Plays Jazz at Lincoln Center

Me and Julio, and Wynton and Aaron

Images and article by Bill Kelly
Never known for resting on laurels or a familiar musical path, Paul Simon brought a unique new perspective to his songbook, playing with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for three sold out shows.  Exploring a wide range of musical genres since leaving Simon and Garfunkel, this was the first time Simon lent his music to jazz interpretation.  Never straying far from original arrangements, the songs were gently tweaked by Marsalis and the Orchestra; the underlying Afro-Caribbean sound and tempos remained, augmented by the horn section and Simon’s band.
