The Basement East...On the eve of destruction

It was a benefit show for Bernie Sanders, where progressive minded musicians in the Nashville community organized by Dean Moore had decided to show their love for Bernie on the eve of Super Tuesday.

Andrew Leahey and the Homestead as the house band fronted some of Music Cities finest musicians. One example is Joel King of the the Wild Feathers singing most appropriately “Revolution” by the Beatles

The music took a short break as Emily Benedict, Nashville Council member and others gave short speeches about why they support Bernie

One of the highlights in a night filled with highlights was Sarah Potenza singing a powerful “Gimmie Shelter”.  In retrospect the line “Oh, a storm is threat’ning” was particularly apt as the storm bore down on the city to wreak havoc on so much, including destroying the Basement East.

At the end the entire cast gathered to sing “Our Kind of Revolution” written by Dean Moore, Amie Miriello, and Tim Jones.   None of us dreamed that we would wake the next day to death and destruction

The best tribute to the spirit of that night and of Nashville itself was how the tornado spared the section of the wall with the “I believe in Nashville” sign. And as the owners begin to rebuild the Basement East, and as Nashville begins to rebuild, by overcoming the destruction proves they believe in the future!
