The Flaming Lips Magic at All Good Festival

The Flaming Lips are known for their delightful on-stage theatrics and crowd engagement.  This was especially the case when they performed for a jam packed audience at the 2012 All Good Music Festival and Campout in Thornville, Ohio.  The Lips started out the show by playing arguably one of their best songs, “Race for the Prize.”  The next two hours would hold numerous other philosophical yet entertaining songs including a cover of Pink Floyd’s “On the Run”.

Of course there well as crazy stage props, lasers, immensely detailed visuals behind the band, and of course front man, Wayne Coyne, crowd surfed in his bubble a few times.  There was even a crew of girls dressed as Alice from Alice in Wonderland.  They crushed their set and came back with one of the best encores of the festival.  They came back on stage to play “21st Century Schizoid Man” by King Crimson.  Coyne transitioned into a five minute motivational speech about how one day the world will someday be as “all good” as the festival they were playing at, and immediately burst into their song “Do you Realize?” As soon as the first note dropped, a mass of smoke and confetti exploded over the audience and everyone went absolutely nuts.  This would prove to be yet another killer performance for the Oklahoma City based quintet, and more proof that they are always going to be a crowd favorite.
2012 was an extremely engaged year for the Flaming Lips that included extensive touring all over the world, setting a world record for most live shows in 24 hours (8), and a new album release called Heady Fwends featuring collaborative songs with various artists such as Erikah Badu, Jim James from My Morning Jacket, and Prefuse 73.  They are also releasing another album entitled The Terror, scheduled for release on April 2nd, 2013.
