Carnival Of Madness with Shindown, Papa Roach and In This Moment at the Allegan County Fair

Carnival Of Madness 2013
With
Shindown, Papa Roach and In This Moment
Allegan County Fair
Allegan, Michigan

This location was different for the Carnival Of Madness compared to last year was located at Rock The Rapids in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The Allegan County Fair in Allegan, Michigan had a relaxing atmosphere for the Carnival Of Madness to hold a concert.  Everywhere you looked were thrill rides set up in the fair and the weather was a comfortable eighty degrees.

The Carnival Of Madness treated everyone who went, to a concert thrill ride.  All the bands had to sound great live and have a great stage presence in order to capture the crowd’s attention.  Shinedown, Papa Roach and In This Moment all captured the crowd’s attention and kept it for the total show just like a thrill ride does.

The first band had the task of getting the crowd going and to keep them fired up.  The first band up was In This Moment.

In This Moment:  In This Moment consists of Maria Brink on vocals, Chris Howorth on lead guitar, Travis Johnson on bass, Randy Weitzel on guitar and Tom Hane on drums.  In This Moment would remind you of a dark version of, “Alice In Wonderland.”  Maria Brink in one song wore a crown and a red cape like a wicked queen.

Another outfit Maria wore was a nurse’s hat and two masked dancers had large syringes they danced with.  The masked dancers shocked everyone by wiping fake blood on their clothes as they danced.   Either with the performance or the music on stage held the crowd captive throughout their total show.

This was the second time seeing the band live and it was a first for my eighteen year old daughter.  She really enjoyed the music and their unique and amazing approach to performing on stage.  This is a band that’s enjoyable to see over and over again.

Papa Roach:  Papa Roach consists of Jacoby Shaddix on vocals, Jerry Horton on guitar, Tobin Esperance on bass and Tony Palermo on Drums.  Papa Roach was the second band up and made the crowd go into a crowd surfing frenzy.  The crowd surfing started with the band, “In This Moment.”

Instead of the crowd surfing letting up it became a tidal wave of non-stop crowd surfers for the total performance.  It was great to see Jacoby Shaddix singing on stage.  There were concerns with Jacoby’s vocal chords.

Last year in the fall Jacoby had throat surgery.  His voice sounded great just like his band.  You can always tell how much a crowd likes the show by how they connect with the band.

The crowd surfing would tell the whole story.  Papa Roach is seeing as many times live as you can.

Papa Roach Set-list:
Burn
Blood Brothers
Give Back My Life
Angels N Insex
Angels Go
Forever
Leader
Scars
Still Swingin
To Be Loved
Murder
Last Resort

Shinedown:  Shinedown consists of Brent Smith on vocals, Barry Kerch on drums, Zach Myers on guitar and Eric Bass on bass.  The first thing you see as the curtain drops down is Brent Smith at the front of the stage and bursts of flames in the back part of the stage.  Brent Smith introduced the band and fire performers.

Besides the bursts of fire going up two stories you also had people performing with fire.  Each performer twirled flames around that captivated the crowd.  Shinedown put on an amazing show connecting with the crowd to the point you forgot what time it was and just enjoyed the music and performance.

The true test of any show is to get the crowd to forget their everyday worries and just have a great time.  At one point Brent Smith went around shaking hands with the security and this reporter as well.  My daughter caught the hand shake on camera.

Brent nodded and pointed to her during the show.  This was a total captivating show with great music, fire and an amazing performance.

Shinedown Set-list:
I’m Not Alright
Enemies
Devour
Unity
Crow And The Butterfly
Adrenaline
I’ll Follow You
Diamond Eyes

Bully

We left slightly early to look at all the thrill rides with their bright lights.  As you walked out of the concert area you can’t help but notice everyone sitting on pick-nick tables entranced by the music.  Everyone looked the direction of the show enjoying a sonic thrill ride.  When you go to a concert like this you just don’t listen to music you experience the music and create memories that will last a lifetime.
